Internet Access
- Network must not have any landing pages or sign-in required. Devices cannot connect if a captive portal or sign-in page is present. Ensure any web-based landing pages are disabled.
- If using enterprise authorization, coordinate with Videri Support to ensure proper configuration,
- If using WiFi, ensure that the SSID requires a password.
- Hidden SSIDs, although supported, not recommended.
Wireless Signal Quality
- Devices must have clear line-of-sight to the wireless access point (AP). Avoid placing devices behind metal beams, concrete walls, or other obstructions that interfere with wireless communication.
Signal strength requirements:
General use: -70 dBm or better
Optimal synchronized experiences: -60 dBm or better
Close proximity to a router does not always guarantee good signal quality. Interference from nearby devices may degrade performance.
Router & Network Configuration
We support the following methods of encryption:
WEP (64/128)
WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES)
WPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES)
WPA2-Enterprise (RADIUS)
Devices support WPA2 encryption on channels that do not overlap with neighboring networks.
There are no QoS or keep-alive requirements.
Limit to 20 devices per commercial-grade router for optimal download performance.
Disable automatic channel hopping. Some routers change channels too aggressively, which can disrupt playback.
Monitor nearby Wi-Fi networks regularly to prevent overlapping channels.
DHCP lease duration must be at least 12 hours (longer leases reduce risk of disconnection).
Frequency & Channel Guidelines
Devices support 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
2.4 GHz is recommended for reliability.
Use only channels 1, 6, or 11 on 2.4 GHz networks. Avoid in-between channels and ensure nearby APs are not on adjacent channels.
Additional Notes
- Attempting to play back Bluetooth audio while downloading content may cause choppy audio due to receiver quality.
Network Connectivity Requirements
For cloud connectivity, devices use the following ports and protocols:
| TCP Protocol | Ports | DNS |
|---|---|---|
| HTTP | TCP 80 | Any. Devices may contact public websites as part of normal signage operations. |
| HTTPS | TCP 443 | Any. Devices may contact public websites as part of normal signage operations. |
| XMPP | TCP 5222 | xmpp-go.videri.com |
| NTP | UDP 123 | The following NTP pools may be contacted. Each pool contains 1000s of individual servers with specific IPs. Generally, it is required to whitelist the NTP protocol rather than individual IPs. time.nist.gov 0.android.pool.ntp.org 1.android.pool.ntp.org 2.android.pool.ntp.org 3.android.pool.ntp.org 0.us.pool.ntp.org 1.us.pool.ntp.org 2.us.pool.ntp.org 3.us.pool.ntp.org |
| NOTE: All communication is outbound from the device, and no routable IP addresses are required. |
