By default, SparkBridge and SparkBridge+ devices utilize EDID auto-negotiation to define output resolution. It is sometimes necessary to manually update output resolution n cases where automatic EDID negotiation does not return the required resolution.
| BEFORE YOUR BEGIN: Ensure that the external display is connected correctly to the SparkBridge or SparkBridge+ device. HDMI-In is not used to output signal to external displays; HDMI-Out should be used. If the externally connected display cannot produce anything higher than HD resolution, make sure that your HDMI cable quality is satisfactory for high resolution throughput. |
Using EDID Negotiation
Before attempting to manually configure output resolution, validate the resolution response provided by EDID negotiation.
Requirement: iCanvas version 5.11.6 or higher
To check the EDID negotiation resolution:
- Navigate to the Devices page in Portal3.
- Select the target device from the list to open the device drawer.
- Click the "Advanced Settings" button, located in the upper right corner of the drawer.
- Click the "Display Settings" tab.
- Scroll to the 'Resolution' section and check the "Mode" field. For automatic EDID negotiation, "Mode" should be set to "EDID Negotiation", "Auto".
- If the mode is configured correctly, continue to step 6.
- If the mode is not configured correctly, click the first dropdown and select "EDID Negotiation" from the list. The device will reboot upon mode selection and will temporarily appear offline. When the device re-establishes connection with Portal3, the page will automatically refresh. Once the device is back online, continue to step 6.
- Check the "Width", "Height", and "Refresh rate" fields to validate whether the device's resolution is set appropriately for the externally connected display.
- If the resolution is reported correctly, no further configuration is needed.*
- If the resolution is not reported correctly, continue to step 7.
- Click the second dropdown of the "Mode" field to view available resolutions obtained by EDID negotiation.
- If the desired resolution is available in the list, select it. Click "Save & Apply". The device will reboot upon mode selection and will temporarily appear offline. When the device re-establishes connection with Portal3, the page will automatically refresh. Once the device is back online, continue to step 8.
- If the desired resolution is not in the list, continue to the next section "Using a Predefined Resolution".
- Check the "Width", "Height", and "Refresh rate" fields to validate whether the device's resolution is set appropriately for the externally connected display.
- If the resolution is reported correctly, no further configuration is needed.*
- If the resolution is not reported correctly, continue to the next section "Using a Predefined Resolution".
|
NOTE: If you have already scheduled content to the device and are witnessing visual anomalies after changing the resolution, you will need to clear the device and resend the schedule. To do so:
Once the device receives the resume schedule command, content should display as intended. |
Using A Predefined Resolution
If EDID negotiation fails to retrieve the desired resolution, you can check the list of predefined resolutions available on the device firmware.
To check available resolutions:
- Click the first dropdown of the "Mode" field, and select "Predefined" from the list. The device will reboot and will temporarily appear offline. When the device re-establishes connection with Portal3, the page will automatically refresh.
- Click the second dropdown of the "Mode" field to view available resolutions obtained from the device firmware.
- If the desired resolution is available in the list, select it. Click "Save & Apply". The device will reboot upon mode selection and will temporarily appear offline. When the device re-establishes connection with Portal3, the page will automatically refresh. Once the device is back online, continue to step 3.
- If the desired resolution is not in the list, continue to the next section "Setting Custom Resolution".
- Check the "Width", "Height", and "Refresh rate" fields to validate whether the device's resolution is set appropriately for the externally connected display.
- If the resolution is reported correctly, no further configuration is needed.*
- If the resolution is not reported correctly, continue to the next section "Setting Custom Resolution".

NOTE: If you have already scheduled content to the device and are witnessing visual anomalies after changing the resolution, you will need to clear the device and resend the schedule. To do so:
Once the device receives the resume schedule command, content should display as intended. |
Setting Custom Resolution
If you are unable to obtain the desired resolution from either EDID negotiation or from the predefined resolution list, you will need to configure a custom resolution by manually calculating timing parameters. If assistance is needed, please contact the Videri Support team via email or by opening a ticket above.
To set custom resolution:
- Click the first dropdown of the "Mode" field, and select "Custom" from the list.
- Input values for all of the fields that appear. You can refer to the Video Timing Calculator for assistance.
- Click "Advanced Settings".
- Ensure that "Content scaling" is set to "Default" and the "Delay HDMI boot" checkbox is ticked.
- Click "Save & Apply". The device will reboot upon mode selection and will temporarily appear offline. When the device re-establishes connection with Portal3, the page will automatically refresh.
- Confirm that the external display is displaying content as intended.*
