Brightness Scheduling

You can configure the device brightness schedule to turn your display off (or change the brightness of your display) at different times of the day, or on different days of the week or month. 

This article explains how to create and edit brightness schedules. For guidance on how to permanently remove brightness schedules, please see Deleting Brightness Schedules. For guidance on how to temporarily remove brightness schedules, please see Temporarily Deactivating Brightness Schedules. 

 

Defining a Brightness Schedule For a Single Device

The sections below explain how to define brightness schedule for a single device. For guidance on how to define a brightness schedule for multiple devices simultaneously, see Defining a Brightness Schedule For Multiple Devices.

NOTE: Multiple schedules can be defined for a device concurrently. In the case of overlapping brightness schedules, the device will prioritize the schedule that was created most recently. 

For example: A user creates a brightness schedule that defines brightness at 0% every Monday. Then, the user creates a brightness schedule to set brightness to 30% every 7th day of the month. In April 2025, the 7th day of the month falls on Monday. The system will select the schedule that was created more recently. Based on the two schedules and their order of creation, the system will set device brightness to 30% on Monday the 7th.

 

Defining a daily brightness schedule 

To define a brightness schedule that repeats on a daily basis:

  1. Click on "Devices" in the left sidebar to see your list of devices.
  2. Click on the target device to open the device drawer.
  3. Click the "Advanced Settings" button in the top right corner of the device drawer.
  4. Click the "Display Settings" tab under the device name.
  5. Click the "Add brightness schedule" button, located in the right of the 'Brightness settings' section. 
  6. Use the slider next to the "Brightness" label to define the desired brightness of the display. To turn the display off, drag the slider to 0%.
  7. [OPTIONAL] Set a start and end time for the lifecycle of the schedule:
    1. By default, the schedule will begin at 12:00 AM on the date when the schedule is being defined. To change the start date and time, click into the date and time fields under the "Schedule between" label.
    2. By default, the schedule will play indefinitely until it is removed from the device. To set an end date and time, click into the date and time fields under the "and" label.
  8. Define the start and end times of the schedule:
    1. Tick the checkbox next to the "Hour parting" label. 
    2. Enter the start and end time for the schedule using the first and second input fields under the "Play between" label, respectively.
    3. [OPTIONAL] To add additional times for when the schedule should play, click the + icon. Repeat step (9) for each additional time period.

  9. [OPTIONAL] To add additional times for when the schedule should play, click the + icon. Repeat step (9) and (10) for each additional time period. 
  10. Click "Save Schedule".

 

Defining a weekly brightness schedule 

To define a brightness schedule that repeats on specific days of the week:

  1. Click on "Devices" in the left sidebar to see your list of devices.
  2. Click on the target device to open the device drawer.
  3. Click the "Advanced Settings" button in the top right corner of the device drawer.
  4. Click the "Display Settings" tab under the device name.
  5. Click the "Add brightness schedule" button, located in the right of the 'Brightness settings' section. 
  6. Use the slider next to the "Brightness" label to define the desired brightness of the display. To turn the display off, drag the slider to 0%.
  7. [OPTIONAL] Set a start and end time for the lifecycle of the schedule:
    1. By default, the schedule will begin at 12:00 AM on the date when the schedule is being defined. To change the start date and time, click into the date and time fields under the "Schedule between" label.
    2. By default, the schedule will play indefinitely until it is removed from the device. To set an end date and time, click into the date and time fields under the "and" label.
  8. Select which days of the week the schedule should repeat on:
    1. Click the dropdown under the "Frequency" label and select "Weekly".
    2. By default, all days of the week will be selected. Click on the day to remove it from the selection. 
  9. Define the start and end times of the schedule:
    1. Tick the checkbox next to the "Hour parting" label. 
    2. Enter the start and end time for the schedule using the first and second input fields under the "Play between" label, respectively.
    3. [OPTIONAL] To add additional times for when the schedule should play, click the + icon. Repeat step (9) for each additional time period. 
  10. Click "Save Schedule".

 

Defining a monthly brightness schedule 

To define a brightness schedule that repeats on specific days of the month:

  1. Click on "Devices" in the left sidebar to see your list of devices.
  2. Click on the target device to open the device drawer.
  3. Click the "Advanced Settings" button in the top right corner of the device drawer.
  4. Click the "Display Settings" tab under the device name.
  5. Click the "Add brightness schedule" button, located in the right of the 'Brightness settings' section. 
  6. Use the slider next to the "Brightness" label to define the desired brightness of the display. To turn the display off, drag the slider to 0%.
  7. [OPTIONAL] Set a start and end time for the lifecycle of the schedule:
    1. By default, the schedule will begin at 12:00 AM on the date when the schedule is being defined. To change the start date and time, click into the date and time fields under the "Schedule between" label.
    2. By default, the schedule will play indefinitely until it is removed from the device. To set an end date and time, click into the date and time fields under the "and" label.
  8. Select which days of the month the schedule should repeat on:
    1. Click the dropdown under the "Frequency" label and select "Monthly".
    2. By default, day 1 of the month will be selected. Click on a day to add it to the selection. Click on a selected day to remove it from the selection. 
  9. Define the start and end times of the schedule:
    1. Tick the checkbox next to the "Hour parting" label. 
    2. Enter the start and end time for the schedule using the first and second input fields under the "Play between" label, respectively.
    3. [OPTIONAL] To add additional times for when the schedule should play, click the + icon. Repeat step (9) for each additional time period. 
  10. Click "Save Schedule".

 

Defining a Brightness Schedule For Multiple Devices

To define a brightness schedule for devices in batch:

  1. Click on "Devices" in the left sidebar to see your list of devices.
  2. Tick the checkboxes for the target devices.
  3. Click the "Actions" button on the right, under the searchbar.
  4. To define a daily brightness schedule, follow steps 6-10 in the Defining a daily brightness schedule section.
  5. To define a weekly brightness schedule, follow steps 6-10 in the Defining a weekly brightness schedule section.
  6. To define a monthly brightness schedule, follow steps 6-10 in the Defining a monthly brightness schedule section.

NOTE: In some cases, you will need to activate brightness schedules for the device batch. As of Version 3.26, this is done via the command terminal. To ensure the batch schedule works correctly:

  1. With the same devices selected, click the "Actions" button on the right, under the searchbar.
  2. Click "Command terminal".
  3. Type the command enable_brightness_schedule:=true and hit "Enter" (Windows) or "Return" (Mac) on your keyboard.

 

Editing a Brightness Schedule

NOTE: As of Version 3.26, brightness schedules can only be edited on an individual basis. 

To edit a brightness schedule:

  1. Click on "Devices" in the left sidebar to see your list of devices.
  2. Click on the target device to open the device drawer.
  3. Click the "Advanced Settings" button in the top right corner of the device drawer.
  4. Click the "Display Settings" tab under the device name.
  5. Click the  mceclip0.png icon next to the target schedule to edit it. 

 

Troubleshooting Brightness Scheduling

If a brightness schedule is not playing as intended, ensure that the toggle next to the "Brightness schedule" label in the Device Display Settings is "Active":

  1. Click on "Devices" in the left sidebar to see your list of devices.
  2. Click on the target device to open the device drawer.
  3. Click the "Advanced Settings" button in the top right corner of the device drawer.
  4. Click the "Display Settings" tab under the device name.
  5. Ensure that the toggle next to the "Brightness schedule" label in the Brightness settings section is set to "Active".
